Erin Law

Student Midwife

Birth + Postpartum Doula

Prenatal Yoga Instructor

BSc Psychology

I am unable to take doula clients at this time, due to my current schedule in UBC’s Midwifery Program. But you are welcome to join my prenatal yoga & birth prep class, or my postpartum class with your babe!

My love for the longstanding tradition of community-supported childbearing is what led me to become a doula. I believe doula work is rooted in traditional holistic care, using natural methods to ease discomfort and promote resilience and empowerment in the birthing people we support.

I moved into birth work with a 14 year background in mental health and counselling. As a doula, I use my skills to provide unconditional emotional support to my clients and to help ease any anxiety or fear they may be experiencing. My intention is to help you feel empowered and confident as you prepare for your birth, to provide comfort and care during your labour, and to support your well-being in the postpartum period.

As a queer woman, I understand the unique needs of same-sex couples, trans folks, and queer parents who often face institutionalized barriers. I also recognize that BIPOC communities experience unequal access to power and resources within society, due to historical and ongoing systems of racism and oppression.

I’m passionate about serving as an advocate and ally for my LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC clients, and I offer my services to you on a sliding scale.

TESTIMONIAL

“Having Erin as my doula was the best decision I made for my birth. She enabled me to complete my birth plan and have a natural vaginal birth without any medical intervention or pain medication. This was no easy task as it was discovered when I was pushing that the baby was breach. I’m amazed at her strength both mentally and physically (she preformed double hip squeezes in a squat position on and off for eight hours). Her calming voice and demeanor put me at ease and helped me get through each stage of labor. The advice she gave me throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum was amazing and much needed. Things could have gone very differently if I hadn’t had her support and advice throughout this journey.”
